Meet Usman, a determined 8-year- old with an infectious smile and an unbreakable spirit. Born with a hearing impairment, Usman has faced unique challenges throughout his young life. As the first deaf child in his family, he experienced the sting of societal bullying, which left deep emotional scars. Before joining Eliya Special School, his world was confined by these struggles, and his frustrations often turned into aggressive outbursts. Eliya Special School has become a transformative haven for Usman, where dedicated staff and specialized therapies are reshaping his life. Through speech therapy, he has learned to make a few precious sounds, and occupational therapy has helped him gain independence in tasks like eating, dressing, and learning sign language.

Usman’s defensive aggression has been replaced with social skills and friendships, thanks to behavioral therapy. Additionally, educational therapy has refined his fine motor skills, empowering him to hold a pencil and excel academically.

Today, Usman is a friendly, outgoing student who enjoys interacting with others. While he still occasionally faces moments of frustration when communication barriers arise, Eliya’s team remains committed, teaching him new ways to express himself through sign language and social skills.

In the short term, Usman’s goals focus on mastering tasks like combing his hair, tying his shoelaces, and improving his ability to sit through activities. His long-term dreams are ambitious: enhanced hearing, independent living, and a meaningful career. Usman’s story is a testament to his resilience and the supportive community around him, showing how specialized care can pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.
