Abdul Moqeet joined Eliya Special School at the age of 6, facing several challenges due to Down syndrome, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and speech difficulties. In his early days, Moqeet’s attention span was minimal, he struggled with social interactions, and his behaviour could be aggressive. His family was always by his side, assisting him with daily tasks like eating, dressing, and managing his emotions.
However, since enrolling at Eliya, Moqeet has made incredible strides. Now 7, he receives dedicated, personalized care that’s helping him thrive. Speech therapy has gradually brought out his first words, while occupational therapy has guided him in completing daily tasks, fostering a growing sense of independence.
Moqeet’s behaviour has transformed remarkably. With behavioral therapy, he’s learned to manage his emotions and connect with his classmates. Now, he not only sits calmly for activities but also shares, listens, and has begun to make friends. His attention span has increased to 5–7 minutes, allowing him to participate in group activities, often with a bright smile that brings joy to everyone around him.
With the continuous support from Eliya’s team, Moqeet’s confidence and self-reliance are flourishing. While he still occasionally struggles with attention and has moments of frustration, his progress is inspiring. In the short term, Moqeet’s goals include sitting through longer activities and enhancing his social skills.
Long-term, his family and teachers dream of him leading a self-sufficient and fulfilling life. Moqeet’s journey of growth and resilience is a testament to the power of loving families and specialized education. Through Eliya’s nurturing environment, he’s stepping towards a future full of potential and inclusion.
