Arooj Fatima joined the Eilya Foundation in October 2021, struggling with cognitive and speech issues. She was born with microcephaly, a neurological condition in which a baby’s head is significantly smaller than normal due to abnormal brain development. As a result, Arooj faced numerous difficulties in her daily life, particularly in communication.
When she first arrived at the foundation, she was reserved, showing no interest in activities, and found it hard to connect with her peers. Her family background, though partially supportive, contributed to her struggles. While her mother showed care, her father and other relatives often undermined her confidence, deepening her sense of isolation and depression. This environment made it difficult for her to focus on her studies, and she lacked the confidence to speak or stand up for herself.
At the foundation, Arooj slowly began to receive the help she needed. Psychological counseling sessions were arranged for her, and she was taught life skills to help her become more independent. These interventions helped ease her depression and gradually opened her up to social interaction.
She began to participate in activities, which allowed her to build relationships and improve her speech. As time went on, Arooj’s ability to learn and engage in her lessons improved significantly. The foundation’s consistent support, she showed about 40% improvement in both her behavioral and psychological challenges.
Looking ahead, the foundation has plans to further help Arooj become more socially active and confident in speaking for herself. By continuing to enhance her independence through skill-building, she will be better equipped to meet her daily needs without relying on others.
The hope is that, in time, Arooj will be able to advocate for herself, fully participate in social activities, and live a more independent and fulfilling life.
